Well, look at it this way ...
What motivation do game publishers have to come up with anything innovative when people keep paying $50 for a 'prettier' version of the same game year after year? Hopefully, consumers will become a little smarter than to keep buying the same FPS/RTS/etc game over and over and over and over ...
There is nothing memorable about very many of these games either. Look at Doom 3 - peple were chomping at the bit to get at it for years, and some even spent ungodly amounts to upgrade their video cards just so they could play it with all the bells and whilstles turned on. And now that it's been on the shelf for a few months, who cares anymore ???
