Calm Down
First, let me introduce myself. My name is David, and I'm a Windows XP user. My XP box is as stable as my Red Hat (4.0AS) box. There, now you know a Windows user who thinks XP and stable can be combined in a sentence in a positive way.

I've been using computers practically my whole life. My first computer was an 8088. I'm currently the Technology Coordinator for a school district in Califoria. The majority of the computers in our district are Macs. They're clean and easy. We're having better luck with the eMacs than the iMacs, simply because we've had a lot of logic boards die, and they're note cheap to replace.

I've been around, used, and fixed Macs for a dozen or so years now, and personally, I'd take a PC over a Mac in a heartbeat. I can get into the core of it and do what I want or need to do. On a Mac, you can't pop a floppy in and boot to a DOS to look at/fix anything. On a Mac, you're pretty much stuck with what you have. There's very little you can do to upgrade it, add cards, hard drives, etc. Also, much of the software our district purchases (claims for both PC & Mac) doesn't run correctly on the Mac, and we then have to either purchase VirtualPC, or the now unavailable, OrancePC.

Macs have their place in the world just as PC's do. First look at what you want to accomplish, then purchase the system that fits it best.

By the way, on my home (stable) XP box, I run Maya, Renderman, Photoshop CS2, and Avid Xpress DV (thinking about going to HD soon) without problems, and when I compared the crunching times on most of the software with a friend of mine with a G5, my PC actually was faster with everything except a few complex Photoshop tasks.

Just my $0.02 worth.
