Species get larger
JUST before they go extinct. Look at the dinosaurs. The paradigm is shifting - technology has made the old telcos obsolete - so they merge in the hopes that a larger organization will have its fingers in enough pies so that at least ONE of them would be better than the rest. Yes, the competition will get less and less, and the prices will go higher and higher - until everything falls apart.

I KNOW people are tired of me saying the WiMAX steamroller. Just as I said in the 80's - Buy Chrysler stock at $2 - the government WONT let them go under - people didn't heed my advice (except Kirkorian). I see this comming, and there's no stopping it. Each step of the way, when you try to stop it, it goes around your blocks. If I can transmit signals in a 30mi radius - tell me I'm NOT a telco. If my neighbor and I can share our bandwidth with everyone else's neighbor - then THAT'S the internet, isn't it?

Nothing beats a conspiracy (as Mr. Spicoli can testify to), and nothing beats communities that come together (like OSS). If high-speed, long-range, and self-configuring ISN'T the end-all be-all of telecommunications - enlighten me to what is.
