I agree too
I'm in total agreement about not using the phone company and using Vonage both. I have SBC in my area of Michigan and just to have basic phone service at the lowest price was about $25 after all the fees were added. To get DSL, I would have to pay that $25 fee just to have a phone line. That pissed me and my wife off both so I cut the cable. Seriously, I went outside to the phone box on the side of the house and cut the cable about 2 years ago. We went all cellular for a while, then went to Vonage for home phone a few months ago, and have Charter cable for internet. Even when I wasn't using Charter for the cable TV portion, it was only $10 a month for basic cable, which is required to have a broadband account. Still not perfect but much, much more acceptable. Later I got rid of the satellite and went with a digital cable package. The combined cost of TV, broadband, Vonage, and cell phone run just a little over what I was paying per month with SBC when that's all I had for phone service. My wife has a large family scattered all overe the place so everything was long distance and our bills were over $150 each month for phone.

Anyway, the point to this rambling is I'm not unique in my story. I know so many people that have done similar things to try and consolidate expenses. Unfortunately for the phone companies, I also know a lot of people that have left DSL behind (and their phone too) to go with Cable and cell phones. Until the phone companies unbundle the DSL, they will continue to push people away. The cable companies are working hard to take people away from the telcos so the telcos better wake up if they want to have any customers left 5 years from now.
