As I have found, and the article states, that the forced leasing of the DSL lines has resulted in lower DSL prices. The prices in my area have dropped to 50% of the cost of cable broadband.

But, as the article also indicated, that because of the increase in DSL usage, the cable companies pumped up the throughput.

IF, the cable companies were force to open up as the bells were, I would expect that throughput would drop in conjuction with an increase in use.

BUT, I do think the cost would come down.

My only concern would be that reduction in the quality of the broadband from cable would stymie innovation in the DSL market.

It is a hard decision that the court has. I wouldn't want to be in their shoes.
