I wrote X using MS API

It's simpler if I substitute the word widget.

I wrote (widget) using Windows APIs. I did this without the need for license from Microsoft, since their APIs don't currently require a license. Yet some (Exchange related) now seem to.

The inference from my original comment was that I currently don't need a license to develop software that interacts with MS technology, yet Nokia did need a license.

That this is forming a pattern as MS closes its protocols and APIs and I think this is a short term move for them that will ultimately bite them in the a$$ as companies choose not to go down that route.
