Somewhat agree
The WiMAX steamroller will let you access the internet (mesh). Any service that runs on the internet will run on WiMAX - as it IS the carrier.

WiFi is not JUST short range - its old tech. WiMAX will eventually replace/displace ALL of it.

"Following that, you will still have to deal with authentication issues (no free service if you don't pay the party that owns the towers)."

No towers, no pay, no authentication - THAT'S the inevitability of the WiMAX steamroller. You get MILLIONS of access points (one or more in every house), and you share your bandwidth to get access to everyone else's. There is NO authentication - universal access, just turn your device on, and it connects to the mesh. This is the scary part for governments - What if terrorists used it? Hey they use the internet today . . .

My WiMAX VoIP handheld is on order . . . wink
