I think the idea of muni based broadband
is a good idea... but for one reason only. Someone needs to bring carriers down to earth with the rest of us. They have lost touch with their original reason for existence - their rate payers. Even Cox, under a different set of rules than telco's, needs some good healthy competition. The fact that it is a gov entity is not the best way to do it, but it appears it may be the only way.

Either we have a gov for, by and of the people or we don't. So if a muni is attempting to do broadband, maybe it is what the people want. And since the arrogant Bells won't listen to their rate payers as consumers, maybe they will hear what they have to say if it comes from their elected representatives.

What is interesting is that only local gov's. are wanting to do this. It is because at that level, big bucks from companies that buy regional and federal representatives have no bearing at the local level. Although, the threat to pull jobs is nothing more than trying to buy off government representatives. PAYOLA!
