- Let me get this straight. The Baby Bells

convinced the FCC to do away with wholesaling to other carriers to protect their investment in the infrastructure. This resulted in AT&T, for one, to drop services. This, in effect, lowered the possible future growth and reduced the current value of AT&T. And now we see the Bells swallowing up AT&T and getting it for much less than it would have if the FCC had not stifled competition. This would be considered political corruption in most countries.
No wonder Powell stepped down from his position at the FCC. He probably got enough to retire on.
