Yup, I approve...
Yes, I approve that plan; after all, it was my post that alluded to the idea. You explained it much better. The only problem, as Anton rightly indicated is that the providers will all end up looking the same. Each will offer the same services, which would make picking and choosing difficult since the best rates are achieved by purchasing the whole enchilada from one company. There does need to be some regulation to prevent bundling this way.

In the end all these companies - television and telephone and broadband - are merely shoving bits around. All forms of communication whether personal or mass will eventually devolve to the exchange of bits, whether as a stream of photons or electrons. The sooner we solve the conundrum of separating delivery from deliverable and service from service, the sooner we'll see inevitable consolidation.

And as I indicated out above, if the consolidation reaches a market point where choice is eliminated or severely rationed; we can always fall back on the Ma Bell solution. We can artificially recreate competition, by fracturing the future single point of control.

Markets tend to expand to fill available space unless constrained by monopoly. Today the monopoly is in the last mile.
