Business scared of grassroots government
Apparently, the big business are not meeting the desires of their customers so the customers are taking the initiative and implementing. Something that originally built the big phone companies before they became public business was tax dollars.

Since the phone and cable companies are doing what the electorate want (FAST connects both ways) they electorate elects people willing to implement it.

Light up the fiber SBC and quit crying. Fiber To The Home (FTTH) for all, or get out of the business and stop crying. None of this fiber to the pole crap. If the technology leaders won't do it, then the people will.
