Huge broadband providers are bad for the Internet. They foster inefficiency. Their networks are trash heaps because they are so large they can't be managed. Phone companies have become arrogant and no longer care about the quality of service because the don't compete in an open market. And they have taken the once indestructible Internet and transformed it to something that facilitates big business instead of technology. This will cause the ultiumate demise of the Internet.
As I've said before, and been flamed for so doing, we do not have an Internet as the Internet was created. It was created to be robust and autonomous. Many small networks with many pipes for connectivity. This made any needed management easy. It made the proliferation of trash nearly impossible. And if any of the small networks went down, it had very little effect on the rest of the net. And it was easier to get any problems solved so down time was less.
We now have a few huge networks connected by few or only one pipe. When one network suffers problems it now affects a tremendous amount of the overall net. Malware spreads like wildfire because there are fewer boundaries to cross. And control of the net has been placed in a few hands who care only about money and not the technology. Which is why the demise of the Internet is assured. In fact, the Internet is dead and replaced with a network which no longer resembles the original.
Massive IT solutions are the worst kind of solutions. IT requires small personaly managed solutions to be effective.
Expect to see more companies providing their own solutions as they discover the falacy of what greed has done to the Internet.
The direction we are heading is bad for everyone concerned. In reality, simpler is ALWAYS better when it comes to IT. - Posted by: bjbrock Posted on: 02/01/05 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
