It's a different story for the numerous people who ask me to help them make something useful out of a pile of gear consisting of a Wintel computer, wireless router, and some iTunes wannabe software.
And in the end, when everything is working, they still have a big ugly Windows box in their living room.
I don't want a bug-ugly Wintel machine in my living room. I also don't want a bug-ugly Apple machine in my bedroom. In particular I don't want to spend thousands of dollars to replace a few meters of wire connecting a CD player with speakers in another room.
Most of all I don't want to spend those thousands of dollars for the joy of having someone lock up the music I've collected over 20 years and four continents behind their "it's for your own good" systems.
If I have to spend thousands of dollars on that music, it'll be to buy enough current-generation hardware to let me keep playing it for the rest of my life (unless they outlaw 120 VAC too) when the only things you can buy are "DRM compliant." - Posted by: Yagotta B.
