Silo mentality
Networking is hard if you are using Windows. But then everything is harder than it needs to be, if you are using Windows.

It's no harder using MS-only stuff than using Apple-only stuff. In both cases you're stuck at the bottom of their silos, though, with no way to do anything else.

The only reason it's hard -- on either Macs or Microsoft systems -- is because both Apple an MS have spent major fortunes making it hard.

It's just a freaking data stream, people! It comes off the CD as bits and those bits could be piped anywhere over the network without having to have a $3000 "digital home entertainment server" in the path -- if the manufacturers weren't terrified of having Apple, Microsoft, and the RIAA all filing suits against them at the same time.
