Re: The Joke
"You talk of freedom in politics, and yet no third party candidate has ever come close to winning, despite most of the country's frustration with the two party system and its ineffectiveness and corruption."

Please learn your American History. The original two major parties in the US were the Torries and the Whigs. Both of our current major parties are examples of third party candidates not only winning, but taking over a segment of the popular opinion. If you meant recently, then there is the 15% recieved my John Anderson that netted his party matching funds for the next election (which they were not able to capitolize on). This is not an issue of government control, but on an alternative party's inability to sell the American people on the idea that they represent them better than the Dems. or Reps. do.

"your "votes" are "counted" behind closed doors by private corporations in bed with political parties."

In the sata of Ohio, where I live, every county counts it votes individually. They are counted by the voting commission. The voting commission is made up of an equal number of Dem and Rep representatives. 44 of the counties have a Dem as the Chairman and 44 counties have a Rep as the Chair. This goes a long way to insure fair and accurate elections. While it may be stated, even fairly, that the parties are controled by special interests, they are not controled by the same special interests. There is great incentive to insure the other guy does not get the upper hand. I know a number of people on some of these commissions, and to say that they rigged elections for big business is frankly the most laughable assertion I have ever heard. You discredit yourself everytime you open your mouth (or keyboard).
