Perhaps, but what it does do is drive usage and acceptance of new technologies. Many who bought the first VCR's did so to watch porn. Much of early internet use was for porn (and continues today--note the huge percentage of porn traded on p2p networks).

Games are certainly pushing hardware development, but in some ways, it's a more localized phenomenon. Porn, however, throughout history, has pushed us into new technologies (going back to the Gutenberg printing press for example).
