Yes, there are at least two cases of high-rise building have been struck by large aircraft. However, you can't really compare either of those cases. Both of which I'm aware were pre-jet aircraft. Also, the construction of the WTC was different than most other steel frame buildings (the WTC was basically an exo-skeleton or tube design with all columns on the outer wall and no interior columns, not counting the center concrete area that housed stairs, elevator, etc).
