Don't forget TDMA
The article talks about there being only 2 major standards in the US - CDMA and GSM. But until very recently (early this year), about 90% of AT%T customers were still on TDMA. I'm sure that figure has changed in the last several months, but even at 50% of the old AT%T that would be 11 million customers. And at least some Cingular customers are on TDMA as well. Everyone tends to (wants to) forget TDMA, but it is still a major force in numbers. In many parts of the country (and especially in many rural areas) it is still the only system that works.
