DSL (any flavor) is as you said limited in range. Something that makes it's roll out in the US a major problem due to the vast distances needed to cover the country.

While Asis is moving to another variation of DSL (and it's limitations) we see the US moving to technologies that aren't so distance limited. (IE: Broadband over Power Lines, WiMax, Fiber to the home, etc.)

I believe that in the end, investment in these future delivery technologies will prove to be the right move, at least for a country so large as ours.
