Monopolies
The USA has a gov't duopoly, the electoral college is a device used to maintain the duopoly enjoyed by the Democratic and Republican ******. So it is not a big surprise that those who achieve power in a regulated political environment would see no problem with a monopoly in business environments. How free is competition in broadband? Who sets the rules and does the regulating? Those who receive bribes in the form of contrubutions and "527" groups who support the members of the governmental duopoly. The money flows to the organziations in power from those who are allowed to monopolize business. Is it really good to have 3 or 4 companies control over 95% of the media we see in the USA? Is that a free market? Why is it that telcos fight communities tooth and nail when the community is underserved and wants to install wi-max to bypass the lack of cable/telco broadband services? The USA is moving quickly towards corporacy whereby the regular citizen is merely a consuming entity. Why do we value corporations over humans? Why do corporate rights supersede human rights? Why do the political parties want a low voter turnout? The policy bust described in the article is a symptom of a much larger disease. A gov't dedicated to sucking the life out of capitalism and free competition.
