Put the book anywhere, organized chaos
To me as a person who has done a fair amount of historical research, I find it a bit scary that items could be just thrown on the shelf with now rhyme or reason. While it would be technically possible to find any text, the ability to browse by topic is still VERY useful.

No matter how skillful I write a query or sort through the list of findings, I am still frequently finding books by mere happenstance when they happen to be located next to the book that showed up on my search.

Please libraries keep the subject matter together.

Regards

Joe
