Not correct Ax!
State law (in my neck of the woods) provides SBC with a monopoly on the phone lines. Nobody could buy in, even if they wanted to. As I said, since the government is now giving SBC and their kind a guaranteed monopoly, we can expect to pay way too much money for too little service.

How that is supposed to get the US to its rightful place as a techology leader is beyond me. Only those making high incomes will be able to afford high speed internet. In addition, basic phone service prices will be higher than they need to be.

George Bush claims that he wants to make sure most people in the US have broadband access. However, he doesn't explain how most people are supposed to be able to afford it. His lackey at the FCC just keeps giving big business more and more leeway to charge whatever they want with no hope of competition.

In other words, there is no competiton and the FCC seems hell-bent on insuring that there never will be.

So, when you talk about small companies "whining", I have to say that the whining is justified. It's pretty difficult to provide services when they law says you can't have decent access to the lines that provide that service. I defer to my first message when I say (again), Powell should be fired.

You said:
And that is the problem, no one wants to "buy in" to the cost of the wiring. They want to sit back, let the Bells do everything and shoulder the cost, and then whine for access.
