Pay attention to Broad Band over Power Lines folks.
Our local co-operative electric company has been running some tests and from everything I see it's a WINNER! I know it's only a test bed but everything about the results are fantastic. Lowest speeds seen were around 3 megs and as high as 10 megs a second.

Now couple that with the fact that power lines go everywhere and do not require investment/modification to provide a communications medium and you have a real winner.

By the way, in this test they used three small ISP's to provide the service with the power company putting up the hardware on the poles. A win/win for the ISP, the power company, and the consumer...
