Just the opposite
No, they are doing just the opposite on planes. They are installing micro cells to allow us to us our cell phones on planes.

It turns out that cell phones will not interfere with the navigational equipment, while the plane is in flight, any more than your notebook computer will. The problem is that they are out of range of the cells. Also, cell switch over would be a little hard at 350 mph. By installing micro-cells, the plane itself becomes a cell and connects to the ground network.

This is in the experimental stage right now. With FAA approval, we should see them on flights within the next couple of years.

If you want to take a nap while somebody near you talks on the phone, you might have to actually (shudder) talk to them. You might have to ask them to be a little quieter.
