It is in the Chips
Intel has it right. If you ask the home buyer he might at most be confused by question but ultimately other than the Geek the average home buyer would rather have it all integrated when he brings it home.
As far as the business goes, Intel is trying to lock down the Ethernet Networking space with a Chip Set (UWB based Wireless) and SOftware (Mesh Routing) that allows a company to install a PC and have it synch up with and begin routing traffic immediately. Self config and fail over capable.
This will all be built into the PC/Servers.
They will then get a piece of the Metro ARea Networking/Distribution pie with their WiMAX CHips for both Base Station, Mesh Nodes and PC/Lapt/Top/Smartphones.

It is an Intel world folks.
Netgear and Linksys have about 3 years, unless they continue to develop their Switching business as Dell did.
