I must admit, I hadn't thought of that angle. Excellent point. From a security point of view this gets REALLY bad, worse than email spoofing. At least with email, your not trying to use it to call 911. This also means that there is no longer any telco ANI, so CALLERID is all that remains and it can read anything the caller wants it to read, just like the sender name on an email. If this is indeed the case, it really puts the heat of fixing TCP-IP to so that every entry point applies an originator ID to make connections tracable. Perhaps both the email spam problem and the telephone fraud problem can be addressed at the same time.
