The govt sets all sorts of standards, from the car you drive, to the food you eat, to what you are able to watch on TV (and yes, that includes porn, it is still regulated, cf child porn et al). The govt legislated a way for you to keep people from calling you and trying to sell you something over the phone. The govt prosecutes scams etc.

The reality is the govt has the right to regulate an industry, and people have to the right to reject the industries right to see and do business in the community.
Porn is business, plain and simple. So it is not a matter of taste, never has been. The word porn comes from the greek word that denotes a transaction of money for sexual favor of one sort or another. That is what porn is.
