Oh, so a "better course for our children" is for the government to own it? Governments around the world have a really marvellous record in running businesses, of course.

In answer to your question - do we really want private businesses to be keeping it in order for the future? - yes, we do. It's worked so far and there's no reason it won't continue working in the future.

If you had a clue, even the remotest clue, you would have figured out that the last telecoms crash was a huge bonus for consumers. Telecoms companies built loads of capacity and then had to sell it to us at low prices when the telecoms boom ended. Telecoms crashes don't threaten the future of the internet, or of anything else. They're just a normal function of the business cycle.
