Verizon sues Time Warner Cable over advertising

Monopolies Competition

No monopoly likes competition. However, Verizon is not a monopoly it is a conglomerate of old Bell Atlantic & GTE which hardly makes them a monopoly. Also, with the FCC rulings requiring landline phone companies offer copper lines for resale to competitors makes them (Verizon and other incumbent phone companies) more vulnerable than ever. Communications period is in a state of flux, because companies are now crossing into lines of bussiness they are not traditionally used to providing. For instance, Verizon a traditionally telephone local exchange company is now branching into both internet (direct to end users rather than reselling to ISP's) and television. Verizon has been upset that it could not stop traditionally cable companies from providing telephone service. Now those companies are upset that Verizon is providing TV service. Competition requires that all companies provide better service at lower prices. I for one am thankful for that. Don't think for a minute that if Verizon or any other competitor aired ads misleading consumers about Time Warner's service Time Warner would go to court immediately. Comcast has aired ads claiming to have the more HD channels than satellite tv. LOL, more than who? Any educated consumer knows that currently Direct Tv has the most HD channels (real HD not reformulated HD). Everyone else is scrambling to catch up.
