The Chinese Internet
There are now more people than ever accustomed to the "Chinese Internet" model - and that number is growing. The Chinese internet is, as you say, tightly controlled by the state, and designed to serve only as an economic tool. And there are are still a great many more of them out there, getting richer, getting more internet access, but still accepting the sort of internet they have now.

After a little while the companies using the internet will increasingly have to toe the line of the Chinese government - even outside China - if they do not want to have their access blocked inside China. This will gradually change the way the whole of the internet is used.

By itself this figure means little, but it shows which way the wind blows.
