Would you care to name the choices? In my area 30 miles outside of Boston, here are my providers:
Comcast Cable
Verizon DSL (IDSL maybe)
Any number of dial-up providers
Hughes Satellite
Dial-up? not a chance in hell.
Satellite? Dial up might be smoother, and at least it works on cloudy days.
Low speed DSL? Great, I'll just tell my wife and kids to stay off while I'm trying to download something. And kids - no more games. Oh yeah, bye Vonage, hello Verizon overpriced phone service.
