RE: Panel urges FCC to cap rural phone subsidies
Be careful what you ask. Deregulation cuts two ways. I live in the rural South. We dismembered AT&T, deregulated electric power and telephone service. Now we have arrogant re-merged communications conglomerates that rival AT&T at its worst. They want to service population concentrations and ignore everywhere else. Telephone, broad band (when it is available) and electric power are increasingly expensive. Because laws do not require sharing of the infrastructure, there is no competition, not that competition has ever helped prices much. Deregulation of electric power has resulted in the Enrond and other debacles.
