Missing the point....
The truth is you can circumvent the need to grovel, by simply sticking to the standards that already exist. If a carrier will not feature your phone in their store...so be it...there are a million+ stores online that will.

Your phone merely needs to support, in a standards-compliant way, SIM cards and the like.

In this way, you can accept any carrier SIM card and your phone will communicate over that network, including data services.

Sure groveling will get you into the retail outlets but is that all this is about? No...this is about an open platform...an accessible platform. The retail outlets exist to make money and demand for a given phone drives customers in to these outlets.

Truly, I would say the groveling would go the other way...with execs making a pilgrimage to gHQ but the open nature of this platform will ensure that they have the same ability to get-in-where-they-fit-in as you or I will.
