What are you paying?
I still have not seen one person state what they pay and what bandwidth they are supposed to receive. I guess that's beyond their capabilities.
Yes, we are an isp/wisp. We offer fixed wireless broadband, Microwave connections, WiFi and fiber optic connections (we have two OC12 fiber backbone connections).
In 6 years we have not had one customer complain about their bandwidth. They receive what they pay for. We have customers that use bit-torrent and have upgraded their service to higher bandwidths.
Do we "shape" bandwidth, in a sense we do. VOIP customers don't need blazing speed, they need a very high QOS, no dropped packets. So they get routed accordingly.
Unlike Comcast and others, we do not tell our customers that we have OC12 bandwidth and associated speed. The actual speed/bandwidth the customer signs up for is what they get. Our lowest bandwidth is 768kbps synchronous. Those customers that choose that understand they will not be getting 8-10mbps.
Anyone who believes that they can get 8-10mbps for $20 a month is delusional. Simply do some cost checking and see what a T1 costs. There is no way that Comcast or any other company is going to provide that level of service to all their customers 24/7 for $20 per month.
