I Am Amazed
I am amazed at how readily the American public is willing to give up its rights. After the horrors of the Nazi Party, we believed that such abuse of the rights of the citizenry could never happen again, but isn't this exactly how the Nazis acted in the early years? The SS would spy on everyone as all citizens were suspect. Anyone who questioned the Nazi's actions were deemed not to be "patriots" and subject to persecution/prosecution. Have we truly learned nothing from history? Have we become so fearful of the "terrorists" that we are incapable of separating right from wrong? Do we need to have a segment of our citizenry tortured and abused before we stop this? I have always blamed the German public of the 1930's and 1940's for not stopping the atrocities that were perpetrated against the European Jews of the time. Let us not wait until the same thing happens here and we find ourselves equally to blame.
