Most phones & PDA's are normally "Invisible" to everything they are not PAIRED with (unless you stupidly set it to be discoverable all the time) so the advertisers signal will just be ignored by the device.
IF you receive SPAM messages via SMS, just complain to your carrier. They will either give you a "free allowance" of incoming messages or can disable SMS altogether on your line.
Most carriers have a way for your phone to be SMS'd by E-mail (i.e. yournumber@message.carriername.com) so the spammers can easily write to thousands of people per hour, but risk litigation by the carriers for unlawful use of their networks. - Posted by: dr_who@...
