it's like the freeway
The phrase - "it's like the freeway" - says it all. When the nation was new there were many private road companies who attempted to charge for road use. All went bankrupt in part because those using the toll roads could bypass the fee collection points with ease. But these companies did not go bankrupt before 10,000 miles of road way were created and company executives had enriched themselves at the expense of shareholders who held the stock to long.

Eventually the US government took over virtually all of the roads and the term freeway came into being. This made sense for the nation because with good transportation, every business benefited, every person needing health care or other service away from home benefited, and the nation could be better defended should war be waged on US soil.

Today multi-national corporations seek to privatize not only the freeways but also the airways, also known as the Information Super highway. They do this by turning otherwise honest government officials into traitors by bribes and other rewards and by threats and punishment - like paying others not to deal and getting those not elected fired and those elected not financed when they run their next campaign.

As it was then, it remains today. The issue is one of investment made by non US citizens in infrastructure this nation needs for the health and well being of those residing in country. Today shareholders from out of country are like the road builders in our early history. They pressure the executives of the companies they own for profit and care not if the executives are lawful because they are not interested in building a better society in the USA but rather are interested in wealth extraction from the USA.

The faster these last-mile-connectivity businesses can be bankrupted the better for the nation. Voice, Video, Email all Web 2.0 can be provided with little more investment by using the < 1Ghz spectrum currently reliable 99.999 for broadcast TV also for telephony and data transfer. This is proven technology. ClearWire has proven this. What we need is to elect government officials who have not been tied to multi-national corporate and monied elite vested interests willing to just do it. every business benefits, every person needing health care or other service away from home benefits, and the nation could be better defended against terrorists. Hillery - hear this.
