Terrible interference with office phones, too!
I admit, I do place my iPhone on the desk while I am working. I started to notice when the ticking starts, it seems to cause my office phone to go into speaker mode. Later, when I go to answer the office phone, I pick up the receiver which then sends screaming feedback into the caller's ear. The phone seems to stay in this mode until I press the speaker phone button, then dial a few numbers and hang up. Really annoying! After reading this article, I plan to keep my iPhone away from office phones as often as possible.
