It was good to see the Sprint name return after WorldCom. Yet we should be cautious. In 2001 Sprint/Worldcom was heavily invested in Ghz technology but had not moved on it and was likely to loose rights to the spectrum. At that time the FTC was considering the 700 Mhz TV spectrum as well as 2.5 and 3 Ghz spectrum for WiMax.

The proof will be in the speed of the roll out. We should see things happening in months not years. This is proven technology that is being limited only by traitors in our government who allow spectrum to be tied up by corporations who - owing to vested interests in other spectrum and land lines - just sit on it, to the benefit of their multi-national share holders.

My preference is that the US government continue administering the 700 Mhz spectrum as it is currently doing (this is TV channels 60 through 68). Best I can tell, use in this spectrum is on a first come first serve basis at little if no charge.

When this spectrum is freed from TV use (or non use as it is in many areas), it becomes in effect the people's dot commons for Web 2.0. WiMax antenna are being built into computing phones and other mobile devices as we post. There is little additional investment needed to make this happen for the US people and the economic imprecations are great. The universal access we already have to channels 60 through 68 and the white space between them can allow us to conduct transactions while on the go
