Why Coke & Pepsi Fountan Control is Bad
A monolithic ecosystem is a weak ecosystem. The kelp forest that has but one type of sea weed isn't likely to be a forest a decade later and this natural law is just now being applied to complex human endeavors.

In the USA, gangs once controlled the distribution of alcohol. There may have been many product choices - ie beer, wine, rum etc - but the supplier likely was the same mobster family. Yes there may be efficiencies with companies like Coke and Pepsi that require those who use their fountains to carry only their brands of drinks but there is also consumer harm in that the consumer can not select product based on the business practices of the manufacturer and distributor. Control of the fountain means lack of consumer control over the way products come to the market. Its mad and harmful - think Mad Cow Disease.

Just as US consumers wish to avoid blood diamonds they wish to avoid the company that is most responsible for corrupting the US federal government. On the limit, US consumers will select Apple and Google vs Microsoft. You do not see Intel and other companies disassociating themselves from the Microsoft brand for nothing. Control of the Fountain (in this case the PC desktop) is a monolithic ecosystem threatening the forest of US democracy itself.

400 companies in an ecosystem. Why not 4000?
