Everyone (?) agrees they are the future on desktops.
Who's this everyone you refer to? Webapps are the future? Really?

MapQuest and Google maps are already the "present" for desktop webapp mapping applications; but just how many of one's routine coputer-use functions will people be willing to do on-line?

I've dabbled with Google Doc's, but I cannot for the life of me rationalize that I will ever ditch my desktops apps to try and do everything I now do with them on-line. I might use Google Doc's for collaborative work with others, but I'm not going to use a browser-based portale to software which puts all my work/data on someone elses server for anything which might be even slightly sensitive.

Go back and read an earlier post in this thread (http://talkback.zdnet.com/5208-1035-0.html?forumID=1&threadID=35335&messageID=651321&start=-9974), and see if you'll want Google (or any other webapp hoster) to have full access to all your information and all your work product.

But, since you believe webapps are the future, don't let me put you off of them. Tell me, what webapps are you planning to use for yourself?

If you'd like, I'll get busy on one for you that will allow you to store all your credit card information with me, and access it through your iPhone. Just provide me with the card holder name, card number, expiration date, and security code for each card and I'll keep it available to you where ever you go - and I promise I won't use that info for any illegal purpose - come on! you can trust me - it's a webapp after all! It's the future! Tell your friends and family.
