Until 3 things change about the iPhone,
Verizon has nothing to worry about.

1. Price. As long as it is $500 + 2 years, although the phone will be a success, it will ot threaten Verizons' market share.

2. Battery life. The predictions I have heard about battery life, which you kind of have to take with a grain of salt to begin with, are not that great. And that's just the official Apple Inc. ones I am referring to. Once they double that a few times, then we are talking a phone that will be likely to hold a charge in field conditions, and so have a chance at being available for use.

3. Disk size. 4 GB or 8 GB is just not big enough. Again, double that a few times and you can get in the game in the way you want to.

I have no doubts at all that the iPhone will best the predictions/projections of 1% market share within the period Jobs anticipates. Still, until I can get an iPhone with a decent phone company, you can make the phone do magic tricks and I won't buy one.

If AT&T/Cingular suddenly becomes the new Verizon in terms of connectivity, then all bets are off, but that isn't likely to happen overnight, or even over the period since this deal was announced.

In the meantime, Mr. Sheidenberg is correct. He needs no iPhone killer, and as people go out and do the research into the iPhone vs. it's "competition" I expect that we will find some of them will buy the iPhone and some will buy something else. The salient point being, it was the buzz around the iPhone that got them thinking about buying a new phone.
