Phone services vs. phone devices
It does highlight some of the problems that exist with the mobile telephone industry.

Mark my words, people will likely flock to buy an iPhone, just because it has the Apple logo on it. (ugh!)

But something has to be done where phones have got to be avaiable via any carrier. Otherwise, it gives the phone manufacturer too much power. Right now, for the consumer, it's becoming more a question of "Do I want this service or do I want that phone?" The two don't always go hand in hand.

The iPhone could be a early indicator of phone manufactuers growing into a culture where manufacturers could make or break carriers, depending on who they choose to work with.

I don't want my carrier at the mercy of a manufacturer like that.
