People will just have to lump large machines then!

WiMAX has it's points, it is wireless last mile technology (last 30km, actually) but it won't be in phones and mobile devices used by several hundreds of millions of consumers for a while (at least until 4G cellular). 3G is already out there (except in technology backwaters like the United States, but the Yanks were always a bit slow to move on mobile devices) and 3.5G (HSDPA/HSUPA) is already in production in places (for those that don't like lumping laptops).
