Americans demand what?
Sorry my friend. I doubt 75% of Americans understand how email works so I think your "Americans Demand" statement is a bit of a reach. The circles I travel in would indicate to me that Americans are continuing to lose trust in the government and that Terrorism is the new War On Drugs that's used to scare the uninformed into giving up what scraps of privacy and other rights they have left. Perhaps it is inevitable that we will become the largest police state that ever was. Maybe there's still hope we won't. As to the kiddie porn issue- here's another point: kiddie porn is often mixed in with the perfectly legal contents of adult oriented material, especially in usenet groups. A viewer of such material has no way of knowing that "Hot Debbie" is only 9 years old until after the image has been downloaded and viewed. Technically, that's a crime. So what prevents law enforcement from seeding such images into the legal usenet groups and then bust the people downloading? Who's going to say that the rights of someone who downloads porn of any sort have been violated? I can't imagine that this whould be any less likely than allowing torture and maintaining a world wide secret prison system in this day and age.
