No one is Blaming The WiFi
Your argument makes no more sense about Wifi than it does about guns. Although the headline is poorly written and misleading, no one is actually blaming the wifi for anything nor is it being used as an excuse. They are simply raising the question about someone else using it without his knowledge and the likelyhood of that happening. An unsecured and/or unencrypted wifi connection is like leaving a cordless phone on the curb in front of your house. Anyone who sees it can use it to commit crimes and put it back without anyones knowledge (all they need is a hanky or a glove to not leave fingerprints).
As a network engineer for 13 years I can see the point. It is not a matter of whether it can happen: it happens everyday. It happens to individuals at home and fortune 500 companies. I work in a data recovery company and we see a lot of this. Not that every instant is a kiddy porn case, it's not, but it just as easily could have been because it relies on "hacking" that individual network and it requires only a laptop and very, very minimal knowledge. Find a gun sight for your other rant.
