Patents....
Patents are not legal for algorithms or mathematics. Since most of these patents deal with improperly-patented SOFTWARE CODE, then they should automatically be invalidated. The law on patents make this very clear, that "algorithms and mathematics are not to be patented". Yet, that is precisely what has been happening over the last decade or so. Rampant misuse of the patent system.
