- Tiers do NOT equal "a-la-carte"!!
- Tiers do NOT equal "a-la-carte." Tiers are the cable TV pricing scheme, and we all know how that works. A single channel that someone might want (such as Sleuth on Dish Network) is placed in the highest-priced tier along with 249 channels that they may not care to pay for. They also force every subscriber to help pay for their most expensive basic channels (Disney and ESPN) whether they want them or not, by putting them in every package. Personally, I listen to less than 10 of the channels on XM. When I had Sirius, it was the same. Give me MY CHOICE of any 10 music channels for, say $5.95, and I'll say that's truly "a-la-carte" and support the merger. But tier pricing with THEIR CHOICE of channels in the packages will NOT be a welcome improvement to satellite radio. Let the folks who want to pay for potty-mouth entertainment (Howard Stern) buy him a-la-carte. But we know they won't do that, because they need every subscriber to help pay for the overpriced deal that they made with him. They'll put Howard Stern in every package and charge every subscriber $2 more, just like Dish Network does with the expensive Disney and ESPN channels. This merger will be bad for consumers, and we all know it.
