Here's the break down
Basic 4 service with 4 features (call display, voicemail, 3 way calling and callwaiting was $56
Long distance plan was $20 for 800 minutes + 17 cents a minute for every minute over 800 or when calls were made between 8 am and 6 PM on weekdays.

So assuming my family didn't have to make any calls during the day and we managed to keep under 800 minutes (a rare thing) the total for phone server was $76. But we usually had an extra $50 in long distance charges too.

So a move to Vonage where I got unlimited long distance and all the phone features was still a savings even if I had to pay to get an internet connections. Since I already had the internet it turned into even more savings.
