Elimination of QoS is a bad idea

I agree that eliminating QoS is a bad idea. I don't agree, however, that offering QoS for sale is a good idea. Determining which packets fall into which QoS rules by virtue of whether the originator has paid a fee or not is marketing, not engineering.

To be useful, QoS should be implemented like rules of the road. What the telcos propose is to set up rules of the road where the Hummer always has the right-of-way over the Hyundai. A traffic engineer would wretch.
